H.O.T. Challenge
The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) organizes
the Hospitality Open Golf Tournament (H.O.T.) to fund scholarships
for students of African descent committed to working in the local
visitor industry upon graduation.
All proceeds from the H.O.T. Challenge benefit the Visitor Industry
Council's (VIC) African-American Scholarship Fund. The VIC is
a not-for-profit organization that was established in 1991 by
the GMCVB to increase and expand the participation by African
Americans in Miami-Dade County's visitor industry. To date, the
VIC has awarded 164 scholarships.
In its 16-year history, the H.O.T.
Challenge has raised $930,000 for the scholarship program. The
outstanding success of the VIC is made possible through the
generous support of industry partners and sponsors.
Corporate partners in the local visitor industry provide sponsorship
support to benefit the organization. Each May, The Greater Miami
Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) sponsors the H.O.T.
Challenge (Hospitality Open Golf Tournament) and Silent Auction
on behalf
of the VIC. And VIC’s Seat Sponsors also provide funding
support in support of the organization’s scholarship and
school-to-work initiatives.
