In 1991, the VIC teamed up with the nationally renowned School of Hospitality Management at Florida International University to provide two-year scholarship awards to upper division (Junior and Senior) students with solid academic credentials and strong visitor industry work experience. In 2001, the VIC initiated a new program to award scholarships to tourism/hospitality management students attending Miami Dade College. In 2002, the VIC created new scholarship opportunities for Johnson & Wales University students enrolled in the hospitality or culinary arts programs. Scholarship awards include tuition, books and academic advisement. VIC students are required to complete a mandatory internship with a local tourism employer and to work in the visitor industry while pursing their college degree. Corporate partners in the hospitality industry fund VIC scholarships.
